Steeton are still searching for their first win of the year after suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Prestwich Heys in the North West Counties First Division North yesterday.

The Chevrons fell behind on 20 minutes when William Shawcross gave the visitors the lead in front of the 117 spectators at Cougar Park.

In the second period Corey Knight hit a brace for Prestwich with goals on 63 and 85 minutes to ensure the Manchester based side took the points.

Despite the defeat Steeton stay 12th in the division.

Speaking after the game Manager Roy Mason said: "It was a disappointing performance from us. I thought that we gave the ball away very cheaply at times and we didn’t create any significant chances throughout the 90 minutes.

"We seem a little devoid of confidence at the moment and we could do with adding a bit of experience into the side in certain areas.

"Prestwich had a bit more know how at this level than us and they made far better use of the ball and they were not afraid to have a bit of patience and wait for the right opening," he said.

Mason also says he is keen to add some new faces to his squad after suffering another injury setback.

"Losing Andy Briggs was a big blow for us and we’ve now found out he has broken a bone in his hand and we need to wait and see if he needs an operation on it.

"I’ll be looking at bringing in a couple of fresh faces this week as we are getting down to the bare bones squad wise, but we really need to bring a couple in with a bit of experience and this level as our younger players still need that bit of guidance."

Next up for Steeton is a home game with Daisy Hill on Saturday.
