Into the second season of his second spell with the club, Jake Townsend is an established member of the Steeton first team.
Appointed as vice-captain by Roy Mason ahead of the 2023/24 season, the winger is a popular member of the dressing room and a firm favourite amongst the Chevvies faithful.
Always a threat in front of goal, whether that be scoring or assisting, 'Towny' is a lynchpin of the side and offers leadership both on and off the pitch as well as being able to play anywhere across the midfield.
A product of the youth system at Morecambe, Jake originally moved on loan to Padiham before spells with both Barnoldswick Town and Nelson.
Originally joining Steeton in the summer of 2020 from Nelson, Townsend immediately became a mainstay in Roy Mason’s side after scoring in a 2-0 win away at Golcar United prior to the season being halted by the pandemic.
Remaining with the club following the return to action, he would go onto establish himself as a first choice out on the left wing for Mason.
Contributing with a number of crucial assists, and occasionally chipping in with a goal or two from range, Jake made the decision midway through the 2021/22 season to play closer to home and depart Marley in order to sign with Darwen.
With momentum and opportunity at the Anchor Ground stifled by injury, it wouldn’t be long before he returned to Steeton in the closing stages of that season.
Signing on with the Chevvies, a phrase which he was responsible for coining, ahead of last season he again contributed massively to the campaign.
Despite the side agonisingly missing out on a play-off place with a game to spare, Townsend provided 11 assists whilst also finding the net on two occasions against Ashton Town and his former side Darwen.
Now both a mainstay and senior member of the squad, the creative midfielder is pretty clear in his ambitions for the forthcoming season.
