Biography

Now into his second spell with the club, midfielder Jordan Townend is looking forward to featuring more regularly this season.

The midfielder comes into the 2023/24 campaign on the back of a disrupted 2022/23 which still saw ‘JT’ win a second consecutive goal of the season award.

His experience will prove crucial as the team looks to go one step further and achieve a top five finish.

A product of the academy system at Bradford City after a spell at Leeds United as a schoolboy, Townend moved into the semi-professional game following his release from Valley Parade.

Signing with Emley for the 2012/13 season, it would be here where Jordan spent the next seven years of his career.

Becoming an established member of the side at the Welfare Ground through his effort and eye for a killer ball, he made 190 appearances in claret and blue whilst contributing 22 goals during that time.

Departing Emley, Townend briefly featured for Silsden as they established themselves at Step 5 following promotion before moving on to sign with Golcar United.

Despite the pandemic, he would initially feature regularly before appearances became limited and he made the decision to depart and sign with Steeton.

Jordan’s first spell at Marley was brief but impactful as his match winning strike from range against Ashton Town secured the 2021/22 goal of the season award for the midfielder.

Returning to Golcar before the end of the season, it was a decision justified as he played for Golcar in the play-off final against Holker Old Boys. A game in which the villagers were victorious to secure promotion to Step 5.

Starting last season at the Skye Direct Stadium, September would see Townend make his return to Marley and immediately slot into Roy Mason’s side.

In typical ‘JT’ fashion, his impact was immediate with a dramatic injury time equaliser against Pilkington in late-October which secured a second consecutive goal of the season award in the process.

Breaking his hand in the festive fixture away at Ilkley, he would be sidelined for a month before returning from injury and marking his comeback with another trademark banger in the away victory against Daisy Hill.

Jordan though had his season ended prematurely after suffering another broken hand in an accident away from the sport at work.

Now fully fit after returning to pre-season last week, a second promotion from this division is the objective.
