Biography

The newly appointed Steeton skipper for the 2023/24 season, centre half Josh Kaine brings both leadership and experience to the Chevvies side.

The defender became our third recruit of the 2023 summer, adding much needed leadership and experience to the back line here at Marley.

The long-term Silsden captain has made the decision to return to the semi-professional game following time away.

Beginning his career in the academy system at Bradford City, the centre half would return home to sign with the open age side at Keighley Shamrocks following his release from Valley Parade.

Impressing for the Shamrocks, Josh would rise through the pyramid by first signing with Campion before moving onto sign with Eccleshill United.

Departing the Mitton Group Stadium, he would spend time with the Silsden Under-21’s side before returning to first team football with Oxenhope Recreation.

Impressing once again in the county league, Kaine’s big break would come with a return to the Cobbydalers and joining the first team ranks.

This is where he would make his name, making near to 300 appearances for the club and becoming the captain of the side for a number of seasons.

A staple figure at the heart of the defence under Danny Forrest’s management, Josh would lead Silsden to immediate success.

In a record breaking 2017/18 season, the team would record over 100 points, with a Kaine led defence only conceding 38 goals in 42 games, as they stormed to the NWCFL Division One North title and in the process promotion to Step 5.

Continuing to lead as a defensive rock following promotion and lateral movement into the NCEL Premier Division, a serious leg injury would see the defender sidelined for two years.

Departing Silsden during his rehab period, Josh would take time away from the sport to focus on his recovery.

However, the Steeton management kept a keen interest in Kaine during this time and have now moved quickly to add experience and leadership to the back line ahead of the forthcoming season.
