Steeton came away from Oldham empty handed yesterday as they lost 1-0 to Chadderton in the North West Counties League First Division North.

A goal from Jack Ward on 40 minutes proved the difference between the two sides in front of the 68 spectators at the ARK Fleetech Stadium.

The match also saw Steeton's Tim Hird dismissed on 65 minutes after receiving a second yellow card whilst Fletcher Paley saved a Chadderton penalty on 74 minutes.

The defeat sees The Chevrons drop to 15th place in the division as they still look for their first win of 2019.

Steeton Manager Roy Mason said: "We changed the system yesterday and I thought that we had a lot more solidity about our play and we limited Chadderton to very few chances.

"Unfortunately we didn’t have enough quality on the ball or enough creativity in the final third and as a result we didn’t work their keeper hard enough.

"The sending off of Tim Hird didn’t help our cause either and it was always going to be up hill battle after that. That said we kept two up front in an attempt to get something out of the game and we almost salvaged a point with a sustained spell of pressure late on."

He added: "At the moment if it wasn’t for bad luck we’d have none at all. But we will roll our sleeves up and go again on Tuesday night as we prepare for another big game against Holker OB on Saturday."
