Goalkeeper James Catlow is now into his second season with the club and has firmly cemented his position as Steeton’s number one.Arriving initially on dual-registration from Barnoldswick Town, before making the move permanent, ‘The Cat’ has established himself as one of the division’s standout stoppers.
Capable of winning points on his own with his saves, his trademark has become his prowess from the penalty spot with an exceptional stop rate from twelve yards.
Before arriving at Marley, Jimmy would initially be a member of the shadow youth team at Burnley.
Moving into semi-professional football following his departure from Turf Moor, he would have to spells with Barlick either side of featuring for two of our divisional rivals in the form of Garstang and Nelson.
Providing a commanding presence inside the box, his performances either side of an injury lay-off saw Catlow keep five clean sheets as he helped the side cement a play-off push in the second half of the season.
In this time, he also became known for his penalty saving exploits as he saved 6 of the 8 penalties he faced outside of shootouts throughout the season.
Despite the side missing out on a top five finish, James’ performances between the sticks did not go unnoticed and he was rewarded by picking up the Young Player of the Year award at the club’s end of season presentation.
Those showings have seen the keeper receive offers from elsewhere heading into the 2023/24 campaign.
Despite this, the decision to remain a Chevron was an easy one for the keeper to make.
